Snow Garden Snapshots

The snow arrived silently and heavily, last Thursday night. On Friday, between snow showers, I took some garden photographs. There was a strange, quiet shock in the way that the landscape was transformed. Lanes in the village were blocked with snow. The usual morning hum of cars passing the end of the fields had disappeared. A cold, grey peace had fallen over the garden.

Yesterday, a partial thaw began, but in the night the freeze returned and brought icicles this morning.
By afternoon, as the sun began to dip in the western sky, patches of green were returning to grass and hedge.

A half moon showed, half hidden behind the old Scots pine.

A mound of ivy kept its scattering of snow.

Snow trapped among fine branches began to freeze again.......

...and the fields stayed an icy, unforgiving white.

Lovely wintry scenes and beautiful words to go with them. We've had snow for a week now and I've been enjoying the cold (and the peaceful roads) so much :)

So very beautiful.
One winter I was working In Kansas City and one afternoon the snow started to fall and kept falling so dense and wet. So much snow that traffic stopped and it was like you said so very quirt. I will never forget walking around in it that afternoon.

cheers, parsnip

Your garden looks beautiful in all its many guises. No snow immediately around our place, but on the surrounding hills - waiting around for more?

This written at the internet cafe as desperation has set in!

Lovely photos and I really love the beautiful one of the icicles :) Garden seems much quieter here too as our road is used so much as a shortcut but its that snowy and icy that there is far less traffic :)

I love to see the landscape under snow, even the most unpromising and ugly places in towns and cities look wonderful under a blanket of fresh snow - until the traffic ruins it all of course. In the country it stays looking lovely much longer. Your icicles are impressive!

What lovely photos of such magical scenes.
Thank you for your kind comment on my bird photos. They do eat a lot of food but we get so much pleasure from their visits.

How your scenery has been transformed by the snow! It's amazing how some areas seem to have missed it! Hope getting around hasn't been to difficult for you.

I'll say this for it DW - it is very beautiful, especially with a bit of sunshine on it. Once it begins to go and get all slushy then the faster it goes the better.

It's odd how we're still fascinated by snow - even when we know about it and have seen it lots of times.

I have to say that I don't like it as much as I did when I was young... though your photos are truly lovely.
