Fairy forests
-
Grey lichens mid thy hills of creeping thyme
Grow like to fairy forests hung with rime
& fairy money-pots are often found
That spring like little mushrooms...

Your River Avon is so different from the river I went to on Saturday. The New River is considered one of the oldest in the *world*(the name is misleading)and the headwaters is here in North Carolina. It was full of kayakers, canoers, people in innertubes and fly fishers. Hard to find a quiet area unlike what you found there.
I love the Loosestrife - it reminds me of a purple bottle brush.
Yes. I think Millais must have sat beside your riverbank. Beautiful pictures.

What beautiful countryside you have to enjoy. I used to holiday in the New Forest and remember how pretty it was. I can picture lying in the bracken, looking up at bats at twilight. I grew up in South Wales, and although we are lucky to be in reach of quite a lot of green space here in South London, I do miss the proper country.
Thanks so much for following my blog.
Lovely photos - love the bridge and the little open gate at the far side. Hot weather and rivers spell midgies to me though, so I would rather view your photographs.
The water photos capture a very soothing atmosphere; I can imagine clouds of tiny insects shimmery in sunlight, birds overhead in the trees, soft meadow scents on the breeze. Unless there were biting insects it looks a lovely place to spend an afternoon.
buzzy things, midges and gnats are annoying but mosquitos are the bane of my existance. If one finds me, it tweets to all its friends to come running, the "mother lode" has been located.
Thanks for posting those, the Avon looks in superb condition despite the lack of rain.
Lovely photos and I got a shiver at the thought of Ophelia floating by! I'm hoping to do a painting of her soon!!!
Hope you're well.x
I love those soothing green watery pictures! I can feel the atmosphere there at the river. Thanks for sharing.
