An ordinary Monday afternoon. People in the supermarket car park looked up from their mundane tasks to see a perfect rainbow reaching its arc behind the trees, over the valley of the River Avon beyond. Total strangers exclaimed with awe and stopped in their tracks, talking to each other and pointing out the rainbow to those who were looking the other way. One or two cameras came out to catch the moment.
As I drove home along back lanes the bow of the rainbow faded, but I seemed to be following one end of it into the Forest. The colours deepened and the rainbow`s end thickened as it hovered over a hill. I stopped the car and found my camera again. Within minutes, the colours had softened and disappeared into the grey air.
Closer....
The small bright shapes on the hill were a group of New Forest ponies, grazing in the brown heather.
Behind me, the sun shone light beams from behind a mass of dark cloud. A weather front moved in from the Channel coast during the evening , bringing a night of rain.

Isn't nature wonderful! Your pictures have captured the magic of that rainbow beautifully.
Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. :0)
How beautiful! From the farm on the hill where we keep our ponies we often see a rainbow arching over the village below. It's magical :)
Rainbows are so lovely aren't they? I always look for them if I know the weather conditions are right. I often wonder how many people never notice them at all.
I love living in rainbow country! And isn't it amazing that so many people carry a camera nowadays, or use their phones, and can capture these fleeting moments?
Quite delightful!
How perfectly lovely (especially as I know that Rainbow's End spot). No rainbows round here at the moment - just grey on grey, with wetness!
What a lovely surprise for you, it looks wonderful.
So close to the rainbow's end yet so far. I always find rainbows so enchanting.
Love from Mum

I love rainbows. We seem to get them a lot up here in the hills and you ae quite right, they do seem to move along at the side of you as you drive down the road. I think you have managed to capture it quite well DW
I wonder hwo many rainbows I've seen in various places in my life--they never cease to inspire and encourage.
There is a place not too far from here in Kentucky which has 'moon bows'--I'm told that one has to be there when it is nearly full moon and clear and not too early in the evening, then one can see the shimmer of the moonbow in the mist over the Cumberland River.
After the sky has had a good cry (rain) the rainbow is the sky, smiling again.
Beautiful, if it never rained, we wouldn't have rainbows ...
We get some pretty spectacular ones round here too.
Beautiful! It's always so nice to find groups of people stopping to look at and take photos of rainbows or other natural phenomena, nice to know so many people still notice
So, so special. Julie xxx
