False Promise of Early Flowers

Here are flowers that brightened the garden just a month ago. It seemed then that we had had an easy winter. There had been little frost and not a flake of snow.

Since then, nights of hard frost and days of ice and snow have turned camelias brown and stopped the rising buds of daffodils. Snowdrops still wait to open their flowers.

This was the year`s first crocus.

A wheelbarrow, loaded with prunings for a bonfire in the field.

White heather....

...tight buds of daffodils....

...a clump of snowdrops...

....and the first Lenten Hellebore to flower.

Pale periwinkles in the shade.....

...and lovely harbingers of summer days, were daisies on the lawn.

Such wonderful flowers, I envy you.
Living in the desert I don't have/plant any out of region flowers as much I would like too. Not the right weather and they need too much water.
But our wild flowers are just starting to bloom and I hope we will have a blooming spring, don't think we had enough winter rain though.
Lovely photos.

cheers, parsnip

I think one or two things have regretted their early appearance:) I had some purple Dutch crocus that flowered really earlt but the snow and frost have made them look very sorry for themselves.
How lovely to see the daisies, I haven't seen any of those yet.

Oh I do love daisies, as common as they may be to you. We don't have them down here, in fact if there are any at all I imagine it will be in the Eastern States.

Love the wheelbarrow piled up, there are one or two spring bulbs starting to appear now, we have some crocus, snowdrops and daffs nearly peeping out, Spring must be coming soon. Julie xxx

yes our camellia is all brown now too. Lots of signs of growth tho and a little swathe of purple crocus on the verge near the end of our road.
