"Loveliest of trees, the cherry now"
Loveliest of trees, the cherry now,
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.
Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.
And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodland I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

I love both the poem and the cherry blossom. Did you know that Housman had never been to Shropshire when he wrote A Shropshire Lad.
I'd like 50 more but sadly it will not be, maybe 20 if I'm very lucky but I love the poem and always enjoy the blossom of all the trees in the Spring.

Such a lovely poem. With maths built in too!
Your Cherry is certainly coming on (unlike my oak...). The blossom is superb this year isn't it? Hope you had a great Easter :-)
Cherry and apple blossom looking fabulous here too. Thanks for a lovely poem and such pretty pictures.
What a fitting poem. Love how your tree has blossomed :-)
A favorite poem of mine. I remember
teaching it to some 11th graders (16 year olds) and was almost shocked to find that none of them understood what the poem was about especially the second verse.
A lovely poem and I love the blossom, too - it is looking beautiful.
One of my favourite poems and spring flowers, thank you for the photos and the poem. Jane xx
A beautiful poem and lovely photos - the trees and blossom are looking so wonderful at the moment. I've not read much of Houseman - been meaning to for ages and I certainly will now :)
Lovely poem - I haven't come across this one before. The cherry blossom is absolutely beautiful at the moment. I'd better look very carefully as I've only got another three years of my three score years and ten to go:) Though I'm hoping for quite a few extra!
thanks for the advice on the sweet pea pods but we are mostly gardening in post so I hope it will not be a problem,

The tree looks wonderful clothed in blossom. I haven't come across that lovely poem before. They compliment each other beautifully. Sarah x
