A Few More Signs of Spring

Winter still has us in its grips, but in the garden there are signs of the seasons changing.

Stripy Crocus

First daffodil

Last autumn, we had a massive drop of acorns in the New Forest. Some have been eaten by foraging animals and insects. Some have rotted in the wet leaf mould where they fell. Some are beginning to germinate.

This primula was a small houseplant in a pot last year. It was planted out after the flowers had finished. It has spread over the summer and now a new generation of flowers is breaking bud.

The white, single flowered camelia has started blooming this week.

Early crocuses.........

...........some hidden in the heather........

.....and daffodils in bud.

A pile of broken twigs and branches, ripped from the weeping willow during high winds and storms.
Nature`s prunings.

Pale crocuses

Fencing was broken down by the wind, behind our neighbour`s garden.
He does enjoy his bonfires!

Lovely spring photos. Crocuses and daffodils have poked their heads above the ground here but are not open yet.

More colour in your garden than ours I think. My yellow crocuses have "bolted", which is annoying as they are looking like they have swooned!

Lovely flower pictures. I nearly bought the same stripy crocus as yours last weekend.

That little acorn will have germinated last autumn- they sink a very deep tap root as soon as they fall from the tree if they can and feed off that over the winter, then put up a shoot to photosynthesise with the following spring when there's enough daylight to make food with. I've just written an essay on it for college so have been studying them- clever little things, acorns :-)

Lovely photos of the flowers of spring - I hope it is not too far off for you. We are lookingforward to Autumn, with an end to the sizzling temperatures. Cheers

Thank you for your comment about Sirius. We are still ridiculously weepy at times and know that we NEED TO GET A GRIP.

The flowers are very cheering, however.

It all lifts the spirit doesn't it?
After the long wet winter its just what we need to get going again even if it seems like the daffs were only our last week to me. That's how time goes now, very quickly.
Primulas are a must in our little garden, they are so hardy and all through the rain and wind they produced that little bit of colour.
@Regarding the dyson, are you sure your puss cat isn't deaf, I can't believe he just sits there. lol

Lovely to see what's in bloom in your garden. The little primula are so very pretty and I have the pale yellow variety all over my garden. Seeing lots of camelia in flower just now too.

beautiful photos - it will be interesting to see how many of the acorns grow up into adult oaks...
