As I turned a corner, this beautiful and very old barn was in front of me. It is the great barn of Hyde Farm. It has recently been reroofed with slate, but the interior seemed deserted. A building project seems to be in progress. When I arrived home, I researched the barn and found that applications have been made to turn it into holiday cottages or a dwelling. The Planning Department website showed that many local people were concerned that it may no longer be an agricultural building. It has housed animals and farm implements for centuries. I shall return one day to see what has become of the barn. My guess is that it will become yet another barn conversion and that its days as a shelter for farm stock and Barn Owls may be drawing to a close.

Of Barns and Back Lanes

Thank you for the outing. I enjoyed that. Happy memories again - perhaps I should be house-hunting in the Forest!
This al looks so beautiful, and so very different to round here. I just love that barn but like you am sad if it is no longer to be part of a working farm. How fortunate that you drove past and captured it on camera before too much 'destruction' has taken place. Hope the dentist was OK. I look forward to more of your drives around the New Forest and must look up EXACTLY where you drove. I love maps and reading them in conjunction with your lovely photos will make your post even more special. Thankyou.
What a glorious place to live. The sky is a fabulous blue! Here in Bucks, it is pink this evening.
So beautiful where you live... I just feel saddened when I read your posts about animals being hit by cars, but from today's post, it's clear that some of them aren't at all put off!
Your outings are always a joy--you observe and pass on such interesting details. I feel that this is "armchair travel" at its best.
We have had time these two past sunny days to follow back roads and enjoy historic buildings--it makes me wish we could buy and restore them to their former dignity.
What a beautiful part of the country you live in. I love donkeys -- if they are friendly. They're more my size than a horse.
What a wonderful trip you have to and from the dentist! I wish mine looked like that here in Oregon, USA! I've recently discovered you blog and look forward to catching up with my reading here. Blessings!
